Tubbs tipped to impress

ROTHERHAM United insist new boy Matt Tubbs has all the attributes to be a big hit after finally signing in at the New York Stadium.

A year-long pursuit of the striker finally ended at the weekend when he signed on loan from AFC Bournemouth until the end of January, possibly with a view to a permanent move.

Tubbs is well known to Millers management duo Steve Evans and Paul Raynor, having been a prolific marksman during their days at Crawley before he was sold to the Cherries for a club record fee.

After struggling to hold down a regular place, he has come north for regular football and both Evans and Raynor are confident the reunion can be a successful one.

Raynor said: "Matt Tubbs is a proven goal scorer with a great workrate. His record proves that if you create chances for him then he will generally put the ball in the net and he has done that on a regular basis for whoever he has played for.

"He works hard for the team and he is generally in the right place at the right time so if we can create those chances then we're very confident he will do a great job for us.

"I am sure, with the quality of players we have around him, he can do that."

Tubbs is pushing to be involved in Saturday's League One opener away to Crewe, although Kieran Agard has also catapulted himself firmly into contention after scoring both goals in Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Barnsley.
