Rotherham United have been hit by yet another blow, with the confirmation that midfield man Jamie Jellis needs surgery on a knee issue.

The summer signing is undergoing an operation today to repair damage to his meniscus and won't play again in 2026.

"He's out for eight to 12 weeks," said boss Alex Bruce.

The League Two Millers, who are in FA Cup action at League One Bromley on Saturday, are without a number of first-teamers as they seek to climb higher than their present 22nd place.

Fabio Tavares and Joe Rafferty are out for the season while Ewan Otoo and Ossama Ashley are also long-term absentees.

"It never rains, it pours," said Bruce. "That's where we're at."

Meanwhile, the head coach explained the omission of centre-half Hamish Douglas from the squad for Tuesday evening's Jersey Mike's Trophy tie against Newcastle United Under-21s.

The 21-year-old had appeared in both previous matches in the tournament and also in three league matches.

When asked if it was just a case of not selecting Douglas, Bruce replied: Yeah. He's got to do more - like a few of them - to get game time. I need to see more from certain individuals for them to get in the team and play - and, when they do play, not make silly mistakes."

A 1-0 loss ended Rotherham's involvement in the competition and extended their winless run to 10 fixtures.

When it was put to Bruce that it has been a desperately poor display, he responded: "I think you're been a bit harsh. I don't think they were that bad, I don't think they were as dreadful as that. I don't think they were great either. We had most of the ball in the second half.

"There's a group of lads in there who are a bit low on confidence."

Rotherham's next league contest is due to be the November 14 visit of Crawley Town, but they may have enough players on international duty to request a postponement.

"Possibly it could be off, but we'll have to wait on how many full call-ups there are," Bruce said.

Brandon Cover, Denzel Hall, Julian Eyestone, Jayce Fitzgerald and Kieran Ngwenya are in the players who may be summoned by their countries.
