Millers lodge record bid

ROTHERHAM United are preparing to break their transfer record for the second time this summer to land a striker as Steve Evans puts the finishing touches to his squad.

With 11 summer signings already banked after this week's arrival of experienced midfielder Paul Green, the Millers are now looking for a front man to increase their strike options.

They've lodged a bid which exceeds the reported fee of around £300,000 they paid Aston Villa for Jordan Bowery last month and while Evans would love to land his target, he says the club will not pay over the odds.

He told the Advertiser: “We've lodged a bid for a striker and we will see how it goes. We've already got Alex Revell, Matt Derbyshire, Jordan Bowery and Kieran Agard but we'd like to cement our options by adding another one.

“All I can say about this player is that he is creative, young and he scores goals."

Winger David Worrall, meanwhile, is inching further towards a move away from the New York Stadium having been told he is free to leave. Walsall, Crewe, Notts County and Oldham are all tracking him.
