Millers are promoted

ROTHERHAM United sealed promotion to League One in winning style at a packed New York Stadium this afternoon.

Goals from Johnny Mullins and Lee Frecklington clinched a 2-0 victory over Aldershot Town to earn Steve Evans’ men the three points needed to be sure of a top-three finish.

It was a sometimes nervy afternoon against opponents already condemned to relegation but the Millers fought through to bag their fifth straight victory.

Alex Revell was the biggest threat in a tight first half, prodding narrowly wide and testing Jamie Young with an angled drive.

The visitors grew in confidence in the early stages of the second half, with Danny Rose’s stinging free-kick forcing Scott Shearer to parry, but moments later the Millers made their breakthrough.

Michael O’Connor swung in a free-kick and in the ensuing scramble, the ball broke for Mullins to slam in to trigger the celebrations.

Kari Arnason produced a double clearance off the line in stoppage time to ensure a clean sheet before  Frecklington tucked away the second goal.
