Good year for karting ace

IT'S been another good year for karting ace Luke Whitworth.

The Wickersley racer finished sixth in the Junior Max class of the fiercely-contested Lewis Hamilton and Bernie Ecclestone-backed Formula Kart Stars (FKS) Championship—despite giving away a year in experience to most of his rivals in only his second full campaign of karting competition.

Following consistently strong heat race performances in the final round of the year at Ellough Park Raceway, Suffolk, Luke battled back from incidents not of his own making in both finals to finish ninth and sixth, thereby securing sixth spot in the end-of-season standings.

It's a huge improvement on his ranking of 15th in 2010 and now the Wickersley School student is aiming to take another leap forward again in 2012.
