ROTHERHAM United's hopes of keeping wingers Joe Newell and Anthony Forde appear to be receding.

The pair, out of contract this summer, have yet to give decisions on new deals offered by the club.

Doncaster Rovers are understood to be the front runners for Newell's signature and their manager, Grant McCann, is a big fan from their playing days at Peterborough United together.

Forde is also exploring his options.

Assistant manager Richie Barker told the Advertiser: "We would like both players to stay but the longer it goes on, the less likely it is going to happen."

The club's other two wide men, Jon Taylor and Ryan Williams, have both rejected new deals and are set to move on.

Barker added: "Once all four wingers were out of contract and relegation was confirmed, it made it more likely that they were going to explore other opportunities for different reasons. They have every right to do that."

Welsh international midfielder Shaun MacDonald became the club's second summer signing this week when he joined from Wigan Athletic on a two-year deal.
