Rotherham braces for bad weather as two storms hit UK in two days
Storm Boelo is set to roll in overnight
Rotherham is bracing for strong winds and heavy rain all weekend as back-to-back storms batter the country.
Gusts are expected to reach over 50mph, whilst the town could see more than 30mm of rainfall over the two days.
Storm Austin hit parts of England this morning (Friday, October 23) before Storm Boelo rolls in overnight, which is set to bring bad weather and potential travel disruption further north.
Rain is expected to start blanketing Rotherham this evening before easing into Saturday morning as the last of Storm Austin passes overhead.
Winds will pick up tonight and remain strong all weekend as gusts could reach 53mph on Sunday.
Yellow wind warnings have been extended throughout South Yorkshire and will remain in place all weekend.
More rain will reach the UK by Saturday, and is expected to hit the town by late-morning.
Saturday will see rain all day with low temperatures expected alongside, dropping to six degrees by Sunday.
The bad weather will finally ease by Saturday night, before more showers throughout Sunday as Storm Beolo moves east.
Next week will remain wet and windy, with Monday particularly rainy and the weather easing as the week progresses.
Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, Mark Sidaway, said: “Saturday morning will start dry and bright in the east of the UK, however further west rain and increasingly windy conditions will already be set in as people wake up for the day.
“This stormy weather will continue to move eastwards bringing rain and windy conditions to all of the UK,” he said.
He added: “People should prepare by securing loose items outside their property, being ready in case of power outages and being aware of likely travel disruption.”
