Trio of Rotherham robbers targeted cyclist who was knocked off his e-bike in high-speed chase
Two of the robbers fled on foot after leaving car – while the third was found “pretending to sleep in the boot”
Three men have been jailed for robbery after a cyclist was knocked off their e-bike by a car which later failed to stop and was driven “at high speeds” before colliding with a boulder close to Manvers Lake.
Police first received reports a man had been robbed of an e-bike on Westfield Road, in Brampton on July 20 2025.

The victim reported a red Audi A4 had knocked him off the bike, a man got out of the vehicle, took his bike and cycled off in the same direction as the car.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Within 20 minutes of the incident, roads policing officers sighted the vehicle and requested it to stop.
“After failing to stop, a short pursuit commenced in which the driver of the Audi drove at high speeds narrowly avoiding collisions with other vehicles before colliding with a boulder close to Manvers Lake.

The driver, Dale Cheatham, and the front seat passenger, Christopher Ogley, made off on foot and were detained nearby by a police dog and handler who used her local knowledge of the area to snare the pair.
“Within the Audi, officers recovered the e-bike and then discovered Sam Kitchen pretending to be asleep in the boot of the vehicle.

“Following the incident, officers recovered extensive CCTV which showed the moments immediately prior to the robbery, as well as the three men trying to fit the bike in the boot of the Audi.
“The footage also showed Kitchen getting in the boot before the car drove off.”

The men were charged with robbery, and Cheatham was also charged with driving a motor vehicle dangerously.
All of them pleaded guilty and appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday (October 20).
- Cheatham, (30), of no fixed abode, was jailed for five years and disqualified from driving for five years and six months.
- Ogley, (38), of Furlong Road, Bolton-upon-Dearne, was jailed for three years and nine months.
- Kitchen, (29), of Windsor Street, Thurnscoe, was jailed for two years
