A two-storey cafe building is the centrepiece of the project, which is being funded from a £20 million Levelling Up grant.

Plans from Rotherham Council say: “The development proposals seek to provide a new lakeside cafe and outdoor pavilion in the location of the existing Firbeck Sailing Club.

“There is an existing cafe within the park, located within the central courtyard area. “However, it is outdated and limited in terms of its size and primarily serves takeaway food and drinks, with the majority of its seating being outside.

“The new cafe building will also have function rooms on the upper floor, further diversifying the offering at the park.”

The works will see the relocation of the sailing club and cycle hub, plus the addition of an outdoor play space.
