Sunny Edwards backs Rotherham boxer Junaid Bostan for Monte Carlo thriller
“Bostan hasn’t had it easy as pro. He’s taken very hard fights early on in his career”
Former world champion Sunny Edwards says Rotherham's Junaid Bostan will feature in one of the most watchable fights of the UK calendar.
Sunny, now a manager, honed his own boxing skills alongside Junaid at Sheffield's Steel City Gym.
Now he will be hoping his pal can build on his return to winning ways after a difficult 2025 and an injury-disrupted start to 2026.
He posted that there would be: "Light Middleweight Madness in Monte-Carlo as Ishmael Davis takes on Junaid Bostan in one of the best domestic fights of the year" referring to the Matchroom 10-rounder at the Salle des Étoiles on December 12.
It promises to be a fascinating spectacle.
Bostan, 24, has 11 wins, one defeat and one draw from 13 fights, while Davis, 31, from Leeds, has 15 wins and four defeats from 19 contests.
Stylistically, the bout could pit a showman against a technician.
Bostan is a southpaw who can switch to an orthodox stance during a fight and has made his name with highlight-reel finishes.
Davis, some would say, appears the more measured operator.
He has been willing to take risks and is ready for this Yorkshire derby.
The prize is a potential route back into the domestic title picture and another dance with Fawaz.
Both men have lost to Bilal Fawaz, who has since collected British and Commonwealth titles.
A victory here could strengthen the winner's case for another shot at domestic honours.
The Eastwood boxer – who was with the Steel City team supporting Dalton Smith during his recent world title defence – has been photographed training at Liverpool's 4 Corner Combat Gym.
The Fight Club 24/7 platform says he has been trained there by John Gillies, once a reserve goalkeeper on the books of Everton, Manchester City, and Tranmere Rovers.
The media source wrote: "The talent in this gym is crazy.
“Bostan hasn’t had it easy as pro. He’s taken very hard fights early on in his career. It will only help him. He’s a very good talent. His upcoming fight with Ishmael Davis on December 12th is mouthwatering. It’s got classic written all over it."
Bostan has not been available for a comment.
