Step it up, coach tells struggling Titans

TITANS coach has called on his players to step up their game as they face a must-win clash with Cornish Pirates this weekend.

Jones watched in frustration as Rotherham were mauled 42-9 by Yorkshire Carnegie at Headingley - their fifth defeat in succession - and if results go against them this week they could drop into the bottom three of the Championship.

Said Jones: "We just need to bring to the table what we can and unfortunately we've got a few things at the moment where individuals are making errors in the contact area, either with ball placement or just clean-out technical issues, or around the discipline and set-piece.

"It's breaking up a lot of good work at the moment and is having a major effect in the momentum of rugby matches.

"The lads are turning up in decent fettle and they're doing their best on a daily basis and we need to start making it happen at the weekends. We train Monday to Friday but work day is Saturday and at the moment the boys are doing in the week, they're not transferring that to game day and that's the challenge for me as a coach."

Titans had just three James McKInney penalties to show for their efforts in Leeds, the hosts running in six unanswered tries.
