Niaomi's bowled over by honour

CRICKET maiden Niaomi Twiss certainly bowled ‘em over when she lifted a top award.

The 16-year-old Maltby School sixth former won the 2010 bowling award for Yorkshire Girls’ U17s, collecting her trophy at the Yorkshire Cricket Centre at Headingley.

All-rounder Niaomi had a fine season for Yorkshire. She took 18 wickets, producing some fine displays of quick bowling. Niaomi also made several telling contributions with the bat in the National Championships, including a good knock for the U17s in the quarter finals against Kent.

Her best innings for Yorkshire last season came on tour in Ireland where she scored 33 against the Irish A team at Rush Cricket Ground. Ireland A compete in the English National County Championships.

Said Keith: “She’s done exceptionally well and is proud to receive the award.”

Niaomi also turned out to good effect with both bat and ball for the boys U15s and U17s teams at Maltby and she also played women’s club cricket on several occasions for Treeton in the White Rose and Midlands leagues.
