Town's backing for Lionesses delights team chief

ENGLAND Ladies manager Phil Neville is delighted with the support for this weekend’s international against Sweden at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Sunday’s match is a sell-out, ensuring a cracking atmosphere when the Lionesses step out in their latest build-up match for next year’s FIFA World Cup.

England return fresh from a 3-0 win in Austria last night and a 1-0 victory over Brazil at Notts County’s Meadow Lane ground last month.

Neville said: “When I first took the job, there was panic about selling tickets but now I don’t really worry about it because I know the fans will come out.

“What I like is when we go to Rotherham or Notts County, they’re the best places. The kids come out, the atmosphere is great.

“In Nottingham I was a bit worried because it was a 12.30pm games on a Premier League day. This Sunday there are some massive matches but we’ve still sold the game out. My thanks go to everyone at Rotherham United for helping stage the match.”

England have lost only one of their 11 matches this year and Sunday’s clash with Sweden, ranked ninth in the world, will see skipper Steph Houghton earn her 100th cap.

Kick-off is 1.30pm.
