It's almost a home match for Millers man of the moment Paul Mullin.

The striker, who opened his account for his new club at the weekend with that stunning winner against Chesterfield on Saturday, lives out Liverpool way.

So Tranmere - one of his old sides - are right on the doorstep of his family dwelling.

The two teams do battle at Prenton Park tonight, when both will seek to build on encouraging starts to the League Two season, and Mullin was planning to head back to Merseyside after training yesterday for an evening with partner Mollie and young son Albi.

"I'm looking forward to the game," said the man who sent AESSEAL New York Stadium into raptures when he came off the bench to score in the 90th minute and seal a 2-1 victory over the Spireites. "Hopefully I start.

Speaking minutes after Saturday's final whistle, he added: "Hopefully I can have a night in my own bed and wake up with my little boy in the morning - the day before he goes back to school. It'll be nice to spend a couple of hours with him."

From there, Mullin will meet up with his Rotherham teammates at a hotel to go through their pre-match routine. "It'll probably be day beds and getting some rest in the afternoon before another big match," he said.

The weekend result and quality of his side's performance pleased Alex Bruce, but the new boss was ready to quickly move on and focus on Rovers who have added Millers old boy Will Vaulks to their ranks and picked up five points from their opening three fourth-tier fixtures.

"We haven't done anything yet," the head coach said. "We've had a good result, that's all. We'll enjoy the next hour or two. But when the players come in on Sunday morning, it's history. It's all about recovering - doing the work for Tranmere and getting ready to go again.

"We're trying to build a culture here. The last thing I want is people thinking that we've cracked it just because we've won one game. We're slowly moving in the right direction. However, there's a lot of work to do."

Meanwhile, Mullin would love a goal against the club he represented from 2018 to 2020 before going on to achieve great things with Cambridge United and Wrexham.

He doesn't have a bad record against former teams, having bagged against Rovers once and Morecambe on several occasions.

The centre-forward echoed his gaffer's message in the build-up to the clash with opponents five spots and one point above 13th-placed Rotherham in the early standings.

"It's a long, old season," he said. "We know one win doesn't mean anything and now we go into Tuesday. It's going to be a really tough game. We'll be ready for the occasion and the challenge."
