Alex Bruce gives a fitness update on Rotherham United's Paul Mullin and Dominic Iorfa

"His two finishes were top drawer."

Boss Alex Bruce has eased fears that two of his players could be spending time on the sidelines after coming off earlier in today's 3-3 League Two thriller between Rotherham United and Shrewsbury Town.

Centre-half Dominic Iorfa had to be replaced towards the end of the first half at AESSEAL New York Stadium while two-goal Paul Mullin lasted for only 17 minutes after the interval.

Happily, neither man is expected to miss any matches as the 22nd-placed Millers seek to move further away from the relegation places.

"Dom's got a head knock," said Bruce. "I think he'll be okay for next week. Paul Mullin just went down with cramp. He did a lot of running when we were down to 10 men."

The home team had midfielder Kian Spence sent off in the 21st minute while the Shrews lost Kian McMahon-Brown to a red card late on.

Hitman Mullin opened the scoring early on with a sublime lob and then quickly added a second as his poacher's instincts saw him slide in to get on the end of an Aaron Nemane cross.

The 31-year-old is now joint second-top scorer in the division with eight goals, one behind Barnet's Kabongo Tshimanga

"His two finishes - the first one, in particular, when he lifted it over the goalkeeper - were top drawer," said Bruce.

Iorfa was hurt in a clash of heads with Shrewsbury's George Lloyd who had to be stretchered off.

"I've just asked about the boy and he's okay, by all accounts," said Bruce soon after the final whistle. "Everyone at Rotherham United is pleased he's okay. That's the most important thing today."

Referee James Oldham gave a dreadful display and was vociferously booed half at half-time and at the end of the contest by home supporters.

Bruce found himself going into the Derbyshire official's notebook. "Yeah, I was booked," he said. "Apparently, I was outside my technical area. Sometimes in the heat of the moment you step outside and you don't realise.

Meanwhile, young centre-half paid the price for a midweek error when he conceded a penalty that allowed Newport County to earn a 2-2 draw and was left out of the matchday 18.

The head coach is planning to have a talk with the 21-year-old after the weekend and isn't ruling out him returning to the squad for the October 31 trip to Swindon Town.

"I will speak to him," Bruce said. "I just felt that we needed fresh bodies, fresh people around it, for this game. He wasn't involved today, but he comes into my thoughts for next week."
