“One mindless and dangerous act" destroys 38 hectares of farm land

FIREFIGHTERS were on hand to tackle a host of fires over the weekend  in Rotherham and the Dearne Valley.

Crews from Elm Lane, Parkway, Birley Moor and Rivelin crews tackled a huge huge field fire at a farm on Droppingwell Road in Kimberworth on Saturday.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene at 2.40pm and said the fire was believed to have been started deliberately. 

They added that 38 hectares of standing crops had been destroyed because of “one mindless and dangerous act”.

It took over an hour to tackle the blaze.

The crew left the scene at 11.35pm.

Two fire crews from Rotherham station attended an accidental vehicle fire at 12.55pm on the northbound M1 between Junction 33 and Junction 34.

They left the scene at 1.45pm.
