US ale hits Rotherham pubs

ROTHERHAM beer drinkers are getting the chance to try a taste of America.

Four Wetherspoons pubs are offering Red Nectar Ale, a Californian cask ale, which is the first time it has been available in this country.

The amber ale, a gold medal winner at the 2010 Great American Beer Festival, will be on sale from £2.20 to £2.40 a pint.

Although the beer is available in bottles in the USA, it is being brewed in the UK for the first time and will be on sale in the pub on draught.

The beer is described as "boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness."

It has an ABV (alcohol by volume) of 5.4 per cent.

It will be on sale at The Bluecoat in The Crofts, The Rhinoceros in Bridgegate, The Corn Law Rhymer in High Street and The Church House in Montgomery Square, Wath Upon Dearne, from next Tuesday.
