Road open after lorry freed from bridge

POLICE have reopened Aldwarke Lane after clearing a lorry that had become stranded under a railway bridge on the route.

The road, between Parkgate and Dalton, was re-opened to traffic at around 4.30pm today, almost six hours after the HGV became lodged under the structure, blocking the route.

Items had to be unloaded from the vehicle and the trailer dismantled before the lorry could be removed.

Bridge engineers were called to oversee the operation and high speed trains were made to go slow as they passed the incident as a precautionary measure.

One motorist at the scene said: “The traffic situation is horrendous."
