Police and Crime Panel backs new deputy commissioner

BARNSLEY councillor Tracey Cheetham has been confirmed as South Yorkshire’s Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner.

She was officially endorsed in the £45,000-a-year post by the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Panel yesterday.

She now takes up post alongside the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Shaun Wright

Cllr Cheetham commented: "I'm delighted to have been appointed to the post and look forward to working closely with Commissioner Wright and his team.

“It's a new and challenging role and I am particularly pleased that the post offers me a great opportunity of being able to make a difference for the people of South Yorkshire."

Cllr Cheetham sits on Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and is a former constituency manager to Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis.

Commissioner Wright is holding a series of fortnightly surgeries to meet the public and discuss their concerns over the next three months.

  • March 16:  Room 008, Doncaster Civic Offices, 10:30am to 12:00pm.

  • April 20: Committee Room 3, Rotherham Town Hall, 10.30am-12.00pm

Commissioner Wright said: “I welcome the public's views on any matter relating to policing in the county and hope they take the opportunity of dropping into one of my surgeries.”
