'Simple aspirations' inspire charity's seasonal campaign

A ROTHERHAM-BASED homeless charity has launched a new fundraising appeal inspired by the community it supports and a famous festive song.

Shiloh’s appeal ‘All I Want For Christmas…’ aims to remind people that the festive season can mean something much more humble for those experiencing homelessness.

Sarah Smart, Shiloh’s chief executive, said: “Our guests have told us that all they want for Christmas is a stable home, a more secure life or to know what family feels like.

“Their simple aspirations influenced our appeal this year.

“The reality is that any one of us could find ourselves in a similar situation if our circumstances changed.

“For our guests, Christmas isn’t about lavish gifts and celebrations – it’s about survival.

“By supporting our appeal, you can help us continue our life-changing work in 2026 and beyond.”

Shiloh provides food, clothing, shower and laundry facilities, access to technology, intensive one-to-one support and wellbeing advice for adults who are homeless, or facing homelessness.

The charity also connects people to partner agencies which can help them gain stability and independence.

The appeal aims to raise at least £5,000, which will help to fund the running costs for Shiloh’s drop-in centre, based at Station Road, Rotherham, and the dedicated team which is often the first port of call for people at a critical time in their lives.

Sarah added: “Homelessness is a national issue but at Shiloh, we support local people facing one of the toughest times in their lives.

“We’d love to inspire individuals, businesses, schools, community and faith groups across Rotherham to get involved and help us make a difference to some of the most vulnerable people in our community this Christmas.

“Whether you host a Christmas Jumper Day, a bake sale, a raffle, a festive quiz or simply donate whatever you can, it will make a huge difference to Shiloh, now and in the future.”

The charity is also appealing for donations of specific items for guest goody bags, including a box of biscuits, mince pies, an A5 notebook and pen, a small toiletry set and puzzle book.
