Give up your coat in Mexborough this Christmas

UNWANTED coats are on the wish list of one charity as it seeks to help homeless and elderly folk this Christmas.

The Salvation Army has teamed up with Specsavers store on York Street in Mexborough which will act as a collection point for donated jackets.

The scheme, which launches on Saturday, will run for four weeks with the aim of collecting at least 100 coats.

The opticians ran the campaign last year and collected 79 coats from the people of Mexborough.

Lorna Armitage, Mexborough store director, said: “Homelessness is an issue that is rapidly increasing across the UK and for this reason it is vital we do all we can as a community to help support the less fortunate.

“We are urging anyone with unwanted coats to donate the items to those in need of a warm coat this winter.

“With the support of the local community and the fantastic work of The Salvation Army, we hope to provide this amazing gift to those who need it the most.”
