Festival to bring arts, music and 'grassroots energy' to town

ROTHERHAM'S Hope Centre will host part of this year's No Bounds Festival as the acclaimed arts and electronic music event returns to South Yorkshire from October 9 to 11.

The festival, first launched in 2017, combines music, art, technology and community projects.

Organisers say this year's programme will span ten independent venues and exhibition spaces across Rotherham and Sheffield.

One of the headline names is internationally-renowned Rotherham artist Mark Fell, who will present new work during the festival.

Fell is regarded as one of Britain's leading experimental electronic musicians.

Born and based in Rotherham, he first came to prominence in the 1990s as part of Sheffield electronic duo SND.

His work blends electronic music, sound art and technology, and has been showcased at major galleries, museums and festivals around the world.

Alongside events at the Hope Centre, exhibitions and community projects will take place across the borough.

These include work involving Rotherham Sight & Sound and the Electronic Music Club project led by musician Rian Treanor, working with local participants.

Community projects involving young Roma people from across Rotherham will also form part of the programme.

Elsewhere, the festival will feature a performance from Sheffield electronic music pioneers The Black Dog, a live premiere from artist and musician Kid Acne, and a collaboration between Toddla T's Steeze Factory and local youth organisations.

Liam O'Shea, director of No Bounds Festival, said: “No Bounds has always been about creating space for new ideas, new collaborations and new ways of experiencing music, art and technology.

“As we look ahead to our tenth anniversary, it felt important to return to the grassroots energy that shaped the festival in the first place, working closely with independent venues, local communities and artists from South Yorkshire and beyond.”
