Neighbours save man from blaze

A ROTHERHAM man had a lucky escape on Sunday after his chip pan caught fire as he lay asleep in his living room.

The man's neighbours rushed inside after hearing the smoke alarm on Sunday evening.

Firefighters wearing breathing equipment extinguished the flames inside the Dinnington property, and the man, in his 50s, did not require hospital treatment.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Had it not been for the prompt actions of this man's neighbours he may not have woken up.

“Chip pans should never be left unattended and people should not attempt to cook after drinking alcohol.”
