Man dies in M1 tragedy

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 65-year-old man was killed on the M1 motorway.The pensioner, believed to be from Sheffield, had pulled his car onto the hard shoulder of the southbound carriageway, near to junction 33, when it was struck by a van

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 65-year-old man was killed on the M1 motorway.

The pensioner, believed to be from Sheffield, had pulled his car onto the hard shoulder of the southbound carriageway, near to junction 33, when it was struck by a van.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene shortly after the incident which occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday morning.

The driver of the van, a 38-year-old man, escaped unhurt.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident. Anyone with information should contact the Accident Witness Helpline on 0114 2202 970.
