Help for veterans to revisit battlefields

ROTHERHAM MP Denis MacShane has backed a campaign to help war veterans return to the battlefields where they fought.

The Big Lottery Fund is offering to help former servicemen and women who served in the Second World War return to the places where they saw action.

Dr MacShane welcomed the move, adding: “This is a generous and imaginative offer. It allows a Rotherham veteran and a relative or friend as a companion to revisit the places where they saw action.

“My own father died when I was young as a result of illness arising from being wounded early in the Second World War campaigns.

“The Heroes Return grant allows widows and widowers of our veterans to make a visit as well.

“I hope as many as possible in Rotherham take advantage of this grant.”

Veterans or their widows or widowers are still being urged to apply to the initiative. They can also apply for help in attending a commemoration in the UK.
