Blitz on blue badge cheats

ROTHERHAM'S parking wardens will be on the prowl in a blitz on blue badge cheats

They will be looking for motorists parked illegally in disabled parking spaces in a number of car parks throughout Rotherham after complaints from blue badge holders.

The clampdown starts next Monday and drivers will be issued with a ticket if their vehicle is found to be committing any of the following offences.

  • Parking in a disabled bay without displaying a valid blue badge.
  • Parking outside the bay markings.
  • Parking on yellow lines or hatched areas.
  • Causing an obstruction.

Wardens will be targetting the following locations:

Coun. Richard Russell, Town Centre Cabinet Members for Rotherham Borough Council, said: "The crack-down in these specific car parks is a direct result of the complaints the Parking Services Unit has received from motorists with genuine disabilities.

"They have found they regularly have problems parking at these particular locations because of the unauthorised use of disabled bays by other motorists."
