154 new jobs at Corus

STEELMAKER Corus is to take on 154 new workers in South Yorkshire and start recruiting apprentice and graduate trainees for the first time since the recession hit.

The latest plans would bring the number of new workers hired by the firm to more than 300 since March.

Corus Speciality Steels wants 133 workers—to be employed on an agency basis—to support steel manufacturing and steel rolling operations in with 43 new jobs in Rotherham and 90 in Stocksbridge.

It also announced this week it was looking for 14 apprentices and seven graduates—the first time the business has recruited trainees since the downturn more than a year ago.
