Rotherham optician urges families to think differently about colour vision
Rotherham optician Premier Eyecare supported Colour Blind Awareness Day this week by encouraging families, schools, employers and sports clubs to understand how colour vision deficiency can affect everyday life.
Colour vision deficiency affects approximately one in 12 men and one in 200 women. People with the condition may find it difficult to distinguish certain colours, particularly red and green. Because people are often born with it, a child may assume that everyone sees colour in the same way and may never mention a difficulty.
Premier Eyecare is part of a growing Colour Vision Community of independent eye-care practitioners working to improve awareness, professional assessment and support.
Michael Bowen-Richards FBDO said: “Colour Blind Awareness Day is not about labelling children or making exaggerated promises. It is about identifying a commonly overlooked difference, helping people understand how it may affect them and giving families clear, responsible advice."
