Brinsworth DC Edge Into Montagu Cup final

Brinsworth DC progress to the Montagu Cup final after the narrowest of victories against fellow Rotherham Sunday League team The Gate Inn.

The Gate could have been ahead in the first minute when Gavin Allott raced clear, only to be denied by the advancing Ross Pritchard.

Brinsworth took the lead midway through the first half when Harry Day whipped a free-kick towards the far post, where Sam Green rose to meet it with a glancing header.

The equaliser came within four minutes of the second half when a scramble involving Morgan James ended up at the feet of Allott, who blasted in from close range.

As the game progressed, the chances increased for both teams, with DC's Josh Nodder, Alex Bartholomew and Day all having efforts saved by Jay Brealey.

At the other end, Steven Taylor's overhead kick went over before Allott's back heel set up James, but his low drive was cleared by the legs of Pritchard.

In the first Montagu Cup semi-final penalty shoot-out in six years, Brinsworth DC's five converted penalties bettered The Gate's four.
Brinsworth DC will face Wickersley CC in the Montagu Cup final on Easter Monday, March 29, 2027 at 11am (S64 0JL) .  This will be the 130th anniversary final.
