Chance for young to launch career in musical theatre

A NEW intense one-week course for young performers aged 14 to 20 who are interested in a career in musical theatre is being launched this summer.

Sheffield Theatres has introduced the new course, which will run from August 8-13.

Youngsters will learn tips and tricks of the trade from West End performers, who will lead master classes in dance, drama and singing.

Participants will also learn about choreography, staging, audition techniques and more.

The course will conclude with a showcase at the end of the week on the Crucible Stage.

A Sheffield Theatres spokeswoman said: “In recent years, we have established a reputation for outstanding productions of musicals with hit Christmas shows like Show Boat, which transferred to the West End last month, Anything Goes, Oliver and My Fair Lady, with Flowers for Mrs Harris following next month.

“Now this expertise will be shared with the next generation of performers, helping ensure local talent is nurtured.”
