Pub still on the market

ROTHERHAM’s Rhinoceros pub is still on the market sale after failing to attract a stampede of bidders at auction.

The Rhino, which was put up for sale by Wetherspoons in 2019 and is currently independently run, went under the hammer two weeks ago with a £450,000 guide price.

But the reserve was not met, prompting the owner to make it available for outright sale for £495,000.

Property documents said the pub on Bridgegate was being extended into the neighbouring property – which would double its size.

It was named after the Rhinoceros Vase, which was made in 1826 at the nearby Rockingham Pottery Works — at the time of its production, the 1.15-metre-high vase was the largest piece of porcelain to have been fired in one piece anywhere in the world.
