LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Football doesn’t care

THE decision to award the World Cup to Qatar was flawed in many areas, but the impact is much wider than those who voted for this realise.

As well as an appalling human rights record and various rumours as to how their bid was successful, the competition is out of season and just feels flat.

Normally there would be people driving round with flags in their cars and the pubs would be packed for the games.

Not this time though as it has revealed to those who didn’t already know that football is about nothing but money.

That’s money for those at the top table and the footballers themselves.

They don’t care about how such decisions affect pub owners etc as long as they continue to rake in the millions.

It’s a sad indictment or modern society and it could have long term effects on support throughout the game.
