Letter: Poor start from councillors

THE day I’m writing (June 7) is a notable date in that it is the day our newly elected councillors pass the £1,000 mark in terms of the allowances they claim.

Probably the most important duty of a councillor is to hold regular advice surgeries where their constituents can bring problems, lobby them or hold them to account.

Personally, given the importance of this service and from my own experience this should be sorted within two weeks of being elected.

On this day of a thousand pounds I’ve checked the RMBC website, walked round to Thrybergh Parish Hall and checked the local shops for notices.

Signs of councillors’ surgeries? Not a one.

A poor start from Cllrs Albiston, Reeder and Senior for Valley Ward, perhaps being so secure in their seats for four years means they don’t have to deign to visit their ward?
