Yobs set canal barge alight

FIREFIGHTERS were called out after a 40-metre barge moored on the canal in Rotherham town centre was set alight last night.

Two crews from Rotherham station and another from Darnall attended Central Road at about 10.30pm.

Rubbish had been lit on board and the flames spread to the base of the 20-ton boat.

Meanwhile, a fire crew attended a grill pan fire on Tennyson Road, Maltby, at about 7.15pm last night.

There was also a shed fire on Braithwell Road in Maltby shortly after 3.30am today.

It had been started when embers fell from a chiminea onto decking.

Crews from Maltby, Edlington and Rotherham spent nearly two hours there, cooling two small propane gas cylinders.

On Sunday night, a fire crew from Rotherham were called out when a bench at Bradgate Park was targeted by arsonists.
