Football academy launches free trials

A FOOTBALL academy led by current and former pros is coming to Rotherham.

And in a further boost, young players who join can continue playing with their junior clubs.

The Pro Player Football Academy was originally set up in July 2014 by professional footballers David McGurk and John McCombe and they now coach over 250 boys at their Wakefield Academy. Several players have passed through and gone on to sign contracts at professional football clubs.

Now they are set to open an academy at Dearne Valley College and Dave Merris, who has been coaching with the Academy since opening, can't wait to get started.

"The coaches involved are all professional or ex-professional footballers with several qualified to a UEFA A or UEFA B standard," he said. "This allows us to offer coaching to a standard that is the same as any professional football club.

"The boys can continue to play with their junior football clubs and attend the coaching sessions with Pro Player to help improve their game. Alongside the training sessions, we play against professional sides which gives the boys the opportunity to impress opposition managers."

Pro Player Football are offering two free trial evenings at Dearne Valley College.
