Trio of 'amazingly charismatic' lemurs land at wildlife facility
Ring-tailed lemurs Margaret, Matilda and One-eyed Pete are settling into their new surroundings
Ahoy there, ship mates!

Three new residents have been welcomed to Gulliver’s Valley’s animal family this summer after sadly being rejected by their original group.
Valley Wildlife has created a new home for three ring-tailed lemurs named Margaret, Matilda and One-eyed Pete, who have settled into their new surroundings and are receiving great care from the animal team.
Native to Madagascar, ring-tailed lemurs are instantly recognisable thanks to their distinctive black-and-white striped tails.
Highly social animals, they live in groups and use a variety of vocalisations, scent marking and body language to communicate. Ring-tailed lemurs are listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), with habitat loss, hunting and the illegal wildlife trade contributing to significant population declines in the wild.
Andy Jonas, zoo director at Valley Wildlife, said: “We are delighted to provide a home to these amazingly charismatic individuals.
“They have been ousted from their group, so will take a while to recover and settle into their new surroundings.
“We know that visitors to Valley Wildlife will enjoy seeing them as they gain in confidence and explore their new surroundings.
“Visitors to Gulliver’s Valley can now spot Margaret, Matilda and One-eyed Pete exploring their habitat and displaying the playful behaviours that make ring-tailed lemurs such popular animals with guests of all ages.
“The arrival of the lemurs is another addition to Valley Wildlife’s growing collection and reflects our ongoing commitment to providing excellent standards of animal care while supporting the welfare and conservation of species from around the world.”
This week the following Clipper Club members are celebrating their birthday.
