Team-mates mourn tragic rugby player

AN inquest was due to be opened today into the death of Rotherham Phoenix rugby player Matt Allott, who died on Tuesday.

Mr Allot, who was single and lived in Rawmarsh is believed to have taken his own life on Sunday after helping his side win against Old Modernians in Leeds on Saturday.

Phoenix coach Dave Trueman cancelled training on Tuesday and around 70 players and friends held a vigil in Matt’s honour at the club’s Clifton Lane base.

A minute’s silence will be observed at Phoenix second team’s match tomorrow.
