£1.5 million to go green in the Dearne

PARK-loving Dearne residents are being urged to tap into a £1.5 million fund to develop green spaces.

The Department for Communities and Local Government is offering the cash to support the development of up to 100 “pocket parks” in deprived urban communities.

Pocket parks are small areas of inviting public space where people can enjoy relief from the hustle and bustle of city streets.

Plots of land up to 0.4 hectares qualify.

The land may be already under grass but unused, undeveloped or derelict.

Grants of around £10,000 to £15,000 per project are up for grabs and applications must be community-led by existing groups with a constitution.

Bids must by in by 5pm on Thursday, December 10.
