Labour big gun in Rotherham to back by-election candidate

SHADOW Home Secretary Yvette Cooper was in Rotherham today to campaign for the party's by-election candidate., Sarah Champion.

Ms Cooper visited Morrisons at Parkgate Retail World with Ms Champion, chief executive of the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

Ms Champion had been due to appear at a BBC hustings meeting with the other candidates standing in Thursday's by-election but she did not attend, saying she was concentrating on campaigning.

It came after UKIP candidate Jane Collins was given celebrity backing by former Tory MP Neil Hamilton and his wife, ex-I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here contestant Christine.
