New sporting facility for Woodsetts

A VILLAGE hall committee is hoping to bring locals together after spending thousands of pounds on new sporting facilities.

Woodsetts Village Hall Management Committee will soon be crossing the finish line in a key project after spending a grant of £50,000 on the newly built Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).

The facility will open on Wednesday with guest star, Elliot Kennedy, a native of Anston, who has worked with the Spice Girls and Gary Barlow.

The new sporting facility is set to host netball nets, a 5-a-side football area and tennis courts.

Cllr Monica Carroll, of the village hall committee, said: “The facility will cater for all ages and will be accessible to everyone in the area.

“Its purpose is to create a strong community spirit and give people the opportunity to keep fit and healthy.

“The installation of the MUGA will ensure that identified needs of the village are met and every member of the community will access and benefit from it.”

After a year of trying to secure funding, WREN, a not-for-profit business which awards grants to community and envrionmental projects across the UK, awarded the village hall committee £50,000 to develop the local area.

“The land was previously used by an Infant School and a church hall that were both demolished so it’s nice that something good has come out of the bad,” Cllr Carroll added.

The MUGA will open on Wednesday, August 12 at 6pm.

Residents are invited to view the facility and enjoy free refreshments.
