Kirsty on the hunt for Rotherham's A-List dancers

A DANCER who has performed all over the world has set her sights on Rotherham for her next starring role.

Kirsty Bennie, whose career has taken her to Hungary and America and seen her working with A-list stars and choreographers, is holding open auditions this weekend to form the A-List dance company in her home town.

The 25-year-old, who is the daughter of Rotherham theatre director Dee Bennie-Marshall, hopes that it will give promise young dancers a new stage to perform on and allow them to reach their full potential.

Time is running out to audition for the group, though, as those interested need to get in touch by Friday

Kirsty, of Broom, said that her career had involved dancing and choreographing all over the world including on board cruise ships, working for dance companies in Leeds and Hungary and starring TV show Dirty Dancing—The Time of Your Life, which was filmed at the American resort featured in the hit film.

She has also worked with as the choreographers used by Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake.

Speaking about her new project this week, Kirsty said: “I want to find dancers to form an elite dance group in the Rotherham area.

“I am looking for dancers who I see promise in.

“They don't need to be at a high standard right now, it’s my job to get them there—and I will.

Dancers will receive high quality training in all areas and styles of dance such as street dance, musical theatre, jazz, gymnastics, Latin and much more.  

“They will also take part in workshops which will enhance their dance skills such as lifting technique and circus skills.”

Kirsty aims for the group, which will be based at Wickersley Library and Community Centre, to work towards performances both big and small with other South Yorkshire groups, such as the Rotherham Teachers Student Academy.

She added: “Training will be focused on encouraging the dancers to reach their full potential and broadening their knowledge of dance styles and will offer them valuable performance opportunities.”

Children over five and adults can can audition.
