Donna delivers a crafty way to support men's mental health
Andy's Man Club thanks 'lovely' crafter for thinking out of the (post)box
A leading men's mental health charity received a carefully crafted – and possible unique - first class delivery with a difference.
Andy's Man Club Rotherham is believed to be the first regional group in the national charity to have been gifted a postbox topper – a display of knitting or crocheting placed on top of a postbox for public enjoyment – in the shape of the hand pose adopted by the men's suicide prevention charity as its logo.
Postbox toppers have surged in popularity in recent years with social media fans touring towns and cities to find and share photos of the colourful and quirky creations.
Donna Sutton – the crafter behind the AMC design on Lime Grove in Kilnhurst – said: “I have been crafting them for years – in particular during Covid - to make people stop and smile.
“I have designed them previously for everything from the King's Coronation and the Armed Forces for Remembrance Day to National Fish and Chip Day.
“They are so popular – people love finding them all across the country and putting them on Instagram.
“People used to like doing it anonymously, myself included, but there is even a National Postbox Toppers Group now – we're not bird spotters, but postbox topper spotters!
“When I heard that Andy's Man's Club was looking to raise awareness I didn't hesitate to get involved.
“They do so much good work for men's health and have saved countless lives.
“I offered to design this which took about 30 hours which is about average, depending on the detail of the design.”
Les Elvin – facilitator of Andy's Man's Club in Rotherham – said: “We are always looking for new ways to raise awareness and thanks to lovely Donna we have this creative and slightly different way of getting people's attention.
“We can't thank her enough – and I personally think this is the first Andy's Man Club postbox topper to have been created across the whole of the national charity.”
Andy's Man's Club, which will have a stall at the Rotherham Show, runs its talking group every Monday at 7pm excluding bank holidays in venues across Rotherham including Swinton, New York Stadium, and Bramley.
