South Yorkshire tennis derbies are a tense affair
This week's Winter League matches featured a series of home and away clashes between Moorgate and Doncaster which produced a series of close matches and some excellent tennis.

In Division 5 Moorgate C travelled to face Doncaster D in a match that was decided by one set, with a win for Mark Busby/Todd Sweeney being cancelled out by a tie break loss for Carol Himsworth/Fran Mignon, giving Moorgate a one set lead going into the Mixed Doubles which saw a loss for Mark and Carol cancelled out by a win for Todd and Fran which gave Moorgate a narrow win.
On the adjoining court Moorgate A took on a strong Doncaster A team in Division 1, with a close loss for Gary Bridgeman/David Evans followed by a win in a championship tie break for Emily Busby/Georgina Taylor.
Gary and Emily then lost in a championship tie break whilst Dave and Georgina lost a tight two setter to give Doncaster a 3-1 win.
Meanwhile at Moorgate the B team entertained Doncaster B in the battle of the only two Division 2 teams that don't have an A at the end of their names and a hard fought win for Alan Dobson/Dylan Beard was cancelled out by a defeat for Jan Gaynor/Emma Wilby.
The Mixed Doubles saw a comfortable win for Alan and Jan but a defeat for Dylan and Freya with the match being won by the visitors on countback by just 4 games.
In another Division 5 game Moorgate D played host to Doncaster C and a marathon match featuring Guy Stevens/Dave Hardy eventually went the way of the visitors and was closely followed by a defeat for Georgia Muffett/Rebecca Gregory and a further defeat for Dave and Rebecca meant the contest was over despite a runaway win by Guy and Georgia, with Doncaster winning 3-1.
In Division 7 Moorgate E travelled to face Beauchief E and the team of Harvey Sutton, Oliver Dean, Helen Lomax and Emily Dean soon found themselves 2-0 down and a loss in a championship tie break for Harvey and Helen meant the home team secured a 3-1 win despite the Dean family duo getting a win in a similar fashion.
