VIDEO: Huge fire engulfs derelict pub torched by arsonists

FIRE CREWS were called to tackle a huge blaze on Mexborough’s High Street after a disused pub went up in flames.

The Bull’s Head, which has stood empty for years, was set alight at 9.25pm last night.

In a video shared on social media, flames could be seen licking around the front door as the fire raged inside.

Firefighters scrambled to the scene were able to bring the blaze under control and extinguish it within the hour.

A fire service spokesperson confirmed the blaze was being treated as arson, adding: “Two fire crews from Dearne and Edlington stations were called out to a derelict building fire at 9.25pm on High Street, Mexborough.

“The fire is believed to have been started deliberately. The crews left the scene at 10:25pm.”

The incident led several social media users to question what they saw as a lack of police presence in Mexborough town centre.
