Trio of arson attacks in borough overnight

FIRE crews were called out to tackle a car, garden outhouse, and a garage on fire after arsonists struck three times in the borough overnight.

A car was deliberately set on fire at 10.25pm on George Street, Goldthorpe. Firefighters from Dearne station attended and left at 11.10pm.

Firefighters were then called out to a garden fire, which included furniture and an outhouse, at 1.05am on Ridgeway East Herringthorpe, Rotherham. The crew left the scene at 2am.

Aston firefighters later attended a detached garage blaze, also believed to have been started deliberately, at 4.45am on Alison Drive, Swallownest. They left at 5.25am.

Elsewhere, crews also tackled two accidental fires. Firefighters spent over an hour at an outbuilding blaze at 7.25pm on Edlington Lane, Edlington, leaving the scene at 8.55pm.

A bin was later accidentally on fire at 4.30am on Hill Top Road, Denaby Main. Firefighters from Dearne station attended the incident and left at 4.45am.
