Young Christians to meet and compete

ROTHERHAM youngsters will be teaming up with fellow Christians this weekend for special Breathe Deep Day featuring a bungee run and video games challenges.

About 200 young people from churches all over South Yorkshire — including St Francis Church in Bramley — will gather on Saturday for an event the organisers say will see them encouraged to “breathe deep, to think, to have fun and to discover together that God is everywhere”.

Dr Steven Croft, the Bishop of Sheffield, will be speaking at the event at Sheffield’s Philadelphia Campus, which will involve a range of workshop, a

Subway banquet and an afternoon of video games, a bungee run and even a “gladiator duel”.

There will be prizes, competitions and time for the young people to connect and relate across church boundaries.

Young people will be hosting the day and leading worship, while facilitators from Christian Aid and Urban Saints will be there to bring guidance.

Organiser Mike North said: “This is the first Breathe Deep day the diocese has hosted and we hope it will become an important annual event for young people to gather together to be encouraged and inspired.

“We have had a wonderful team of youth workers from around the diocese to put this day together, and we'’re excited to see what fruit will come out of it.”
