Show offers a chance to check out missing piece in town centre jigsaw

A GIANT magnetic puzzle of Forge Island will be among the more unusual attractions as the team behind one of the missing pieces in Rotherham’s town centre jigsaw set out their stall at Rotherham Show.

Developer Muse and Rotherham Council will have a marquee dedicated to the regeneration project at the weekend-long event at Clifton Park on Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors will be able to check out visuals of the scheme, including a cinema, Travelodge hotel and restaurants, as well as the proposed Riverside Gardens park.

There will also be family activities provided by contractor Bowmer + Kirkland, including a sandpit, giant construction blocks and a large-scale magnetic puzzle of Forge Island, as well as giveaways and a lucky dip.

History buffs can also learn about the industrial heritage of the site – which started life as a steel forge in the 19th century – with an archaeologist from BWB Consulting, who will also be displaying historical artefacts found during the excavation of the site.

Raife Gale, senior development manager at Muse, said: “The Rotherham Show is a fantastic event which is visited by more than 70,000 people each year, offering us an incredible opportunity to generate more buzz and excitement for Forge Island directly with the local people who are set to benefit from it.”

The Forge Island marquee will be open from 10am to 5pm on both days.
