Bitter and sweet comic treat
This might be my favourite announcement by Josie Long on her recent gig at The Leadmill comedy club.
But then there are a lot to choose from.
From her young family's move to Glasgow from London where she has found a sense of community to her political rage (and outrage), this is a balanced blend of excoriating fury at the current government – and Kier Starmer's Labour for abstaining on bills like the Covert Human Intelligence Sources - tempered by the joyful exuberance of her young daughters.
During the pandemic, her eldest daughter awaited the arrival of the post as a daily highlight.
When one day the only thing delivered was a takeaway food flyer she said in hushed tones of wonder: “Look, mummy – PIZZA has sent us a letter!”
Bitter and sweet – a real comic treat.
