Titans skipper has Knights in his sights

THREE visits to Castle Park and three defeats. It’s a record Titans' Joe Bedford desperately wants to put right tomorrow.

The Titans skipper will lead his team out against their arch rivals knowing that his personal record at Doncaster is bad, but the team’s is even worse. In five trips up the M18, Titans have lost the lot.

Those stats will be firmly in Clifton Lane minds as the team prepares for tomorrow’s clash, with Doncaster one place below in seventh spot, having played a game more.

After a poor start to the season, when Lyn Howells’ side lost four out of five, the Knights have certainly perked up. The resurgence started when they were squeezed out at Worcester in added time and they’ve now won three out of four, including last Saturday’s seven-try 41-3 battering of Plymouth at the Brickfields.

But Bedford is optimistic that Titans can claim a first-ever win on Castle Park soil.

“It’s a huge game for us,” he said. “We literally finished against Esher and then one minute later started talking about the Donny game\_that’s how much it means to this club.

“Guys have got to go to work with Doncaster people and there are a lot of bragging rights at stake.

“I’ve been there three times and haven’t won yet. I lost once with Leeds and twice with Rotherham, which isn’t nice, and that’s something I’m looking to put right this week.

“We had been dealt some really hard fixtures at the start of the season and we’ve put them behind us now. If we can get a win at Doncaster and a win against Moseley the week after that will bring an end to a cracking first half of our season.

“But there are no easy teams in this division. We saw Pirates go to Worcester and win and who’d have thought that. Anyone can beat anyone.”

Kick-off tomorrow is 2.30pm.
