It's tight at the top after Rotherham Titans slip to agonising defeat away to Plymouth Albion

ROTHERHAM Titans hung on to top spot in National One despite suffering a narrow defeat away to Plymouth Albion.

An injury-time penalty consigned them to a 22-21 loss in Devon despite outscoring their hosts by three tries to one.

Rotherham remain top by a point courtesy of another setback for Rosslyn Park, who missed a last gasp penalty in a single-point home defeat to Bishop’s Stortford.

The top of the table has bunched up, with only five points separating the top five.

Blackheath sit third, two points behind Titans, after seeing off Sedgley Park 31-3.

Plymouth are fourth and Sale FC are just a point behind them after a 15-13 success at Birmingham Moseley.

Titans had led 14-9 at half time at Plymouth thanks in part to tries from Jackson Barling and Isaac Shaw, both converted by Lloyd Hayes.

Although replacement Morgan Veness also crossed the whitewash late in the game, Albion kept in it thanks to a try and the penalty kicking of Iwan Jenkins, who also landed the decisive blow at the death.

Titans now have a two-week break before their next match away to Rams, in sixth, on Saturday week.
